I am so happy and excited to write here that Geeta Bhawan has been serving and meeting needs of the society including the Punjabi Asian Community so effectively and efficiently. It has enabled everyone to experience and enjoy Hindu cultural, religious and spiritual traditions outside India. Hearty congratulations and best wishes on this 50th anniversary. Keep it up.
Nilesh Shukla , Hindu Priest

I first became aware of Geeta Bhawan in the late 1970s, when I learnt, as a County Councillor, how important it was for the local Punjabi Hindu Community to be able to meet together and worship in the distinct way to which were accustomed.
In 1983, I was honoured to be able to assist the community in acquiring a lease on the Lemyngton Street Premises and in obtaining a grant to make the building fit for purpose for use as a Hindu Temple.
Although this needed a certain amount of effort at the time, I have to say, that the way that the Punjabi Hindu Community has blossomed since that time, has more than justified those efforts.
Finally, I would like to pay tribute to everyone who has contributed to the thriving community who worship here today. The friendship and sincerity with which you approach your activities, is a surely a model for all minority communities across the country.
My wife Marj, and myself, thank you for your friendship wish you a long and successful future.
Very Best Regards,
Mike Jones

Dear Geeta Bhawan friends.
Congratulations on your 50th anniversary.
I have shared with you for many years and appreciated your commitment to working with other faiths. Since your temple opened all those years ago, I have watched you improving the building and opening it up to groups to meet there. We have always appreciated the warmth of your hospitality whatever the occasion was.
I have also watched with delight the area devoted to your gods and goddesses. What a lovely area for worship you have developed, and you have given others the opportunity to share it.
Every good wish

Dear Ram
When Ann and I came to Loughborough in 1991 we soon joined the inter Faith conversations that were led by David Paterson. Geeta Bhawan was always one of the communities we would visit and that has continued to this day. I love to come to your temple. I love the quotations from Bhagavad Gita and with the new shrines I love the colours and the lights. It is so important to me that you are an enthusiastic
advocate of inter faith in our multicultural town. Loughborough is all the stronger. Being open to each other, opening our hearts and minds to learn together, to be friends, is the path to peace. Om Shanti.
Best wishes
Anthony

Dear Dr Chhabra
A few words:
Congratulations on the 50th Anniversary of Geeta Bhawan!
What a milestone!
Geeta Bhawan has held a great community presence for all these years in Loughborough. It has hosted many events and religious celebrations, welcoming everyone from the local community. It has also contributed greatly in supporting Interfaith activities.
On behalf of Brahma Kumaris Loughborough we congratulate you on all the service you have done over the last 50 years and all that you will continue to do.
With all best wishes

Hello Ram
At our most recent business meeting, you asked LCoF members to provide comments which could be uploaded to Geeta Bhawan's website, in recognition of the temple's 50th anniversary. I would l ike to offer the comment below (while I'm still on the Council of Faiths for the next few hours!)
"Congratulations to Geeta Bhawan - to all who rely on it and call it their spiritual home - on its 50th anniversary. I've always liked the fact that the temple is in such a busy part of town, right next to the bus stops. It reminds us that the best way of living out one's beliefs and of practising one's faith is in the middle of the world, at the centre of daily life. For those who know Geeta Bhawan - even to the slightest degree - it is a welcome beacon of light and a welcoming refuge of peace among the bustle, challenges and demands of daily life. Loughborough should count itself blessed to have it" - George Merchant Ballentyne (from the local Bahá'í community; Secretary, Loughborough Council of Faiths).
I hope that's acceptable Ram.
Cordially yours
George Merchant Ballentyne

Secretary
Loughborough Council of Faiths

Thoughts about Geeta Bhawan on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary.
I have known my good friends at Geeta Bhawan since 1998, when I first became involved in interfaith discussions in Loughborough, and a representative of my church at Loughborough Council of Faiths.
I have always enjoyed visiting Geeta Bhawan. Our friends there always give us a kind, courteous and gentle welcome, and invariably, they are ready with tea and biscuits! This is a nice place, and a nice community of people.
My experience of how our friends at Geeta Bhawan have played a part in interfaith activity within the town falls under four headings:
Hindu and Geeta Bhawan special events
There is always a warm invitation to their special events from Geeta Bhawan to friends of other faiths. When we visit Geeta Bhawan, our hosts are always ready to explain their faith and beliefs. I love the words of wisdom (from Bhagvad Gita) high up on the walls of the hall.
The biggest celebrations, such as Diwali, take place at the town hall. It is good to see faith celebrated in such a large, conspicuous venue in the heart of the town and a welcome given to so many people.
General interfaith / Council of Faiths events
When I consider how I view the Geeta Bhawan representatives at Loughborough Council of Faiths meetings, two words come to mind: ‘reliable’ and ‘wise’. The Geeta Bhawan representatives are almost always present and make Geeta Bhawan almost always available – people and a place we can rely on and fall back on when other options fall through. This is epitomised by Dr Ram Chhabra having been the Vice Chair of Loughborough Council of Faiths for as long as I can remember!! And he has never let us down. He does not speak often, but his comments are insightful and valued.
Difficult discussions
On rare occasions, there has been a need for a neutral venue and inobtrusive hosts for more difficult mixed faith discussions. Geeta Bhawan has been that place.
Invitations from other faiths
Our friends from Geeta Bhawan have always been willing to attend and support discussion events held elsewhere and the special celebrations of other faiths, and to enquire and learn. This is a crucial part of interfaith work – we all need to be as willing to listen as to speak, and as able to be a guest as to be a welcoming host.

Heartiest congratulations to Geeta Bhawan on reaching its Golden anniversary milestone.
My family and I have been part of Geeta Bhawan community and have participated and contributed at all levels in all the religious and community events held at Geeta Bhawan. I have the honour and privilege to serve as an honorary secretary for the last 45 years. Also along with my wife, have been in the lead role in its establishment and development. I have also the honour of representing Geeta Bhawan on various statutory bodies including National Council of Hindu Temples, Equality Action and Loughborough Council of Faiths.
Geeta Bhawan was established to pass on our cultural and religious values to our younger generations and to have a place for us to pray together and to celebrate our festivals as an extended family. I am pleased to put on record that we have been very much successful meeting our objectives. This is clearly evidenced from our programmes that have attendees from 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation. Even the younger members who after their education have moved to other towns, still have strong ties with Geeta Bhawan. I call them Geeta Bhawan alumni.
Geeta Bhawan have not only served the community in providing a Hindu Mandir to offer their prayers together, celebrate Hindu festivals and community activities, but also a meeting place for the retired men and women to share their moments of high and low.
We wish our Geeta Bhawan to flourish and be not only the light house of peace, spiritual wisdom, devotion and faith but also of selfless service, hope, love, mutual respect, friendship, solidarity and benevolence.
Best wishes and prayers for our Geeta Bhawan to have a bright future
Dr Siri Ram and Mrs Shashi Chhabra

As Geeta Bhawan is celebrating Golden anniversary this year, I would like to send my heartfelt congratulations to all in Geeta Bhawan community on this milestone day. It is a great achievement for which, we should all be very proud of.
I have been associated with Geeta Bhawan for more than 30 years now. I can visualise how Geeta Bhawan looked before and how it gradually transformed over the years. This was made possible due to hard work by visionary trustees and management committee members.
As a Hon. Secretary of Shree Matiya Patidar Samaj, Loughborough, I organised so many Bhajans and Garba programmes in Geeta Bhawan, celebrating various religious festivals. We are very grateful to Geeta Bhawan for their generosity in allowing our Samaj to do so.
On a personal note, I have attended many programmes here too. I must say I have received so much respect and love from everyone in Geeta Bhawan. I really felt very honoured when Dr S R Chhabra asked me to represent Geeta Bhawan at Diwali cultural programme at the Loughborough Town Hall few years ago. Since then it has become regular feature of the programme every year.
My best wishes are always with Geeta Bhawan. May God Dwarkadhis help us to keep our Geeta Bhawan lively with community activities, buzzing with sound of bhajan kirtans and overall vibrant for many years to come.

Dr Chhabra …….
With gratitude from a devoted member*
Dear Geeta Bhawan Temple Committee and Community
A very big THANK YOU to Geeta Bhawan temple……..
Huge Welcome - always with open doors……
I have been a member at Geeta Bhawan for a few years now, and I feel, I must write to express how much the Temple means to me.
Whenever I can come for prayers, peace & to be close to God – Geeta Bhawan Temple Loughborough, has always welcomed me - by the community that is so jolly, kind, and ready to help, always with a smile. It feels, at ‘HOME’, with brothers & sisters. After the prayers, BHOG (prasad) is delicious & I enjoy it too.
It makes a world of difference.
The coach trips are another blessing — so well organised, with freshly cooked, tasty food and always that lovely sweet pudding to finish lunch! It feels like being with family.
The Temple itself is a sanctuary. It is always spotlessly clean, beautifully lit, and the atmosphere has a wonderful, calming aura. The moment I step inside, I feel peace and close to God.
Thank you to every volunteer, cook, driver, and member who makes Geeta Bhawan what it is. Your seva (selfless service) does not go unnoticed.
Ap sab ka khoob khoob abhar
Jai Shri Ram. Jai Shri Krishna,

Om shanti uncle ji. Sorry it’s a bit late but I would like to send a few lines for 50 anniversary of Geeta Bhawan. If you feel appropriate please do the needful.
When I first came to the UK from India in 1993, everything was new and unfamiliar. During that time, the ladies at Geeta Bhawan welcomed me with kindness, guidance and support. They made me feel that I wasn't alone and gave me a true sense of belonging. From the very beginning, Geeta Bhawan became much more than a Mandir to me – it became a family and a home.
Inspired by the values of service and community that Geeta Bhawan has always stood for, in 2005 we began running voluntary computer classes to help those who found technology challenging. Many members of the Mandir attended these sessions, embracing the opportunity to learn new skills and support one another.
The success of these classes led to Loughborough College approaching us with funding to launch English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes. Through these, we were able to help many members of our community improve their English and maths skills, opening doors to new opportunities and greater confidence.
Over the years, Geeta Bhawan has always been a pillar of our community. It has not only been a place of worship, but a place of learning, friendship and unity. It was also the home of our summer play schemes for many years, bringing together children and families from different backgrounds to learn, grow and build lasting friendships, while discovering more about our Mandir and our culture.
We will always be grateful for the support, encouragement and opportunities that Geeta Bhawan has given us. The impact it has had reaches far beyond these walls, touching the lives of so many people and strengthening our community for generations.
As we celebrate this incredible milestone of 50 years, we offer our heartfelt congratulations and prayers. May Geeta Bhawan continue to thrive, inspire and serve our community for many more generations to come.
Thank you.

I have known the Geeta Bhawan since 1993, when the community warmly welcomed me, following my marriage to Sonia.
The Temple Community has always given me a friendly smile, and some excellent cuisine, directed by a “top” chef, who I am lucky to call my Mother-in-Law!
Every week, a bountiful number of aunties and uncles help to prepare, cook, serve and clean, and create a strong family atmosphere. I have always been impressed with their sleek operation.
My Father-in-law, a founding member and Secretary to the Temple for decades, along with the Committee, has given us knowledge, scripture, stories and beliefs, and gained respect from other Hindu communities, and people of other faiths, including myself.
The wise insight into choosing the current building resulted in Geeta Bhawan becoming an excellent centre for prayerful worship and a strong community in Loughborough. Regardless of its location on a main road, the building maintains a peaceful ambience - an instant step away from the busy town centre.
I have attended many events, including Diwali, Hanaman Chalisa and all-night Jagratas (with very sleepy children!). Music has been central and I have enjoyed playing the dholak, harmonium and tambourine to help raise the roof! Afterwards, I return home with a sense of peace and calm.
The hard work, dedication and support from so many community devotees, has helped Geeta Bhawan maintain a firm footing on a journey which has lasted for fifty years, with great success.
Congratulations on reaching this important milestone. Wishing you all the best for the next fifty

Poem
Geeta Bhawan Loughborough’s Golden Anniversary
When thinking of our Geeta Bhawan, so many memories flood my mind.
It’s the root of our core values, the heart, of our community you will find.
From monthly gatherings in St Peter’s, to fortnightly in our own hall,
our families united with the purpose of prayer, and a social space for all.
The walls resonated with devotional songs, whilst the prashad was being prepared.
Children ran and played without worry; they were amongst people that were kind and cared.
Everyone fell into their own roles and routines, from making the jyot and laying down the sheets,
to setting up mic’s and playing the dholaki, and organising any fruit and treats.
The ladies rose early to cook the delicious lungar, whilst catching up with each other’s news.
Uncles set up the tables, served the food with smiles, whilst sharing their opinions and views.
Whoever could, helped with the clear up, from washing the huge pots to drying each tray.
Hoovering the carpets, cleaning the kitchen, securing the building at the end of the day.
The committee worked diligently in the background, to plan each special occasion, program and event.
Everything was organised with thought and love, newsletters were handwritten and sent.
I remember we had chocolates and mithai for Diwali, when the fireworks were always the best.
Children dressed up and performed dances; we had special recitals or a talk from a guest.
The kirtans were always beautifully sung, especially during the Jagaratas through to dawn.
Everyone rejoiced the news of birthdays, weddings, and sweet new babies that were born.
Children loved receiving birthday cards, the little gifts and special attention.
Each person’s donation and life event, was acknowledged and given a warm mention.
Community aspects were regularly shared, helping our families to integrate.
For University students, friends from afar, GB was the centre we wanted to create.
Years on with a separate, wonderful prayer hall, kitchen facilities and extra space,
we have school visits, weekly meet-ups, more events and fun activities taking place.
The forged bonds are now instilled for life., the devotion and sense of spirit is strong.
Generations have been involved, and maybe moved on, but Geeta Bhawan is somewhere they’ll always belong.
We think of Aunties and Uncles that we have lost, and other cherished members too,
So to continue this legacy of 50 years, future generations we turn to you.
To uphold the integrity of this institution, and honour the lessons that have been learned.
Stand proudly for the people past and present, for the love and respect that has been earned.
Because of Geeta Bhawan, I’m proud to be Hindu, my belief has not waivered or been in doubt.
I have learned about teamwork and community support, being there for each other is what it’s about.
Fifty years and what an achievement, such moral and humble people you have grown.
Congratulations much respected Geeta Bhawan, your name and impact will forever be known.
With Best Wishes for the future years
Sonia Turner

Geeta Bhawan
When people ask me where do you come from? My answer is always Loughborough. My parents came from India, I was born here and they have worked so hard to teach us about our culture and heritage.
Together with so many others, they founded Geeta Bhawan 50 years ago, a temple, a place where the community could come together to pray, get to know each other and recreate a bit of what they had back at home.
Since childhood we all have continued to build this mandir and community over the years.
Geeta Bhawan is a place where people get together to pray, celebrate, socialise, console or support each other. Everyone is equal and everyone is welcome.
It has become our identity, a place where we belong.
A community centre for our parents to now meet weekly with their friends, monthly satsangs and prayers at the core, family successes and celebrations marked by Jagratas and Mata Ki Chonkis; and the new tradition of weekly Hanuman chalisa recitations.
Something for everyone, a congregation with hundreds of colourful, interesting back stories all together for one purpose united to make our community and Geeta Bhawan greater than it’s ever been.
My journey is brighter and more interesting for having grown up with all the Aunties and Uncles I’ve met through Geeta Bhawan and have come to know as my people.
I’m so proud of what we have built. It also fills my heart to know my parents have so much love and friendship around them. And I’m really lucky my husband James and children India and Sam, can see and experience what our culture and religion means to me.
Happy 50th Birthday Geeta Bhawan and thank you to each and every one person that has made this place so special, for me to come back to and call home.

Growing up in London, we never really knew what being in a community felt like, because living here it was always just people coming and going. So we never really were part of a community. We both grew up thinking everywhere was like this until we started visiting my nana and nani and coming to Geeta Bhawan.
The community that Geeta Bhawan had surprised me because every time we came we were welcomed with open arms and smiles from people who were there. Whilst being a place of worship, to us it became a place of family and a place of kindness where anyone could come and feel welcome and seen. From running around as little kids in the dinner hall, reading the diwali story one year, celebrating so many milestones and additions to our family and to now seeing how far this community has grown, it's been amazing to witness. All of this would've been impossible without our founders and family who have worked so tirelessly to keep this place special for us all.
Happy 50th Birthday Geeta Bhawan and thank you.
Love

Congratulations to Geeta Bhawan on reaching a milestone 50th Anniversary – and to everyone associated with the Geeta Bhawan.
It is such a wonderful example of what can be achieved with strong bonds across a community and the help and support that brings with it.
My family and I have always received such a warm and heartfelt welcome from everyone here and it is fantastic for my children and myself to understand my Wife’s cultural and religious background.
A real pillar of the local area and a shining light to the wider world of how important community is.
Here’s to the next 50th years of Geeta Bhawan a real gift from the founders to future generations.

Dearest Geeta Bhawan,
Firstly, may I start by congratulating our wonderful mandhir and community centre on 50 happy years! Geeta Bhawan has been the epicentre of our lives growing up and served our community with kindness and grace.
I have had the pleasure of being a proud member for my entire life which is almost as long as Geeta Bhawan’s existence (49 year!). My family and I have been involved in many special events at Geeta Bhawan and taken great pride in offering our service and talents in many ways!
My fondest memories which make me smile to this day, are of the Independence Day celebrations. My sister Anu and I delighted the community with our annual comedy sketches. We played 'Dulha and Dulhan', Mia, Bibi and most fun was Budha and Budhi!!! These memories will stay with us forever and we thank Geeta Bhawan for giving us a place to grow, play and pray!
We wish Geeta Bhawan another 50 years of success and look forward to being part of its future, and along with our families to continue the fun for years to come.
Jai Mata Di and Vadhiyan

I have been attending for as long as I can remember. From my childhood days of sitting, playing, and sleeping soundly at the back during the all-night Jagratas, to taking part in fancy dress events, celebrating our most important family milestones, weddings, and the births of our children, the Mandir has always been at the heart of our lives.
The deep-rooted sense of community, togetherness, and mutual respect has always defined our wonderful Geeta Bhawan family. It is a place where people of all ages come together in worship, friendship, and service. It is also a place of peace—a sanctuary where we can seek strength and escape from the stresses of everyday life.
Thank you to everyone who has helped make our Mandir such a special place over the past 50 years. Here’s to many more generations experiencing the same love, faith, and sense of belonging.
Jai Mata Di

We have seen it to progress from its humble beginning at the St. Peter Social centre to its present grand premises in Lemyngton Street. We have witnessed the building of Prayer Hall and installation of Deities. Geeta Bhawan has served its community well and has given us opportunity to get together to socialise, pray together and to celebrate our Hindu festivals. It has taken us on Day Trips to other Hindu Temples, Seaside resorts and Theme Parks. We always look forward to Hanuman Chalisa recitation on Tuesdays and Ladies group meeting on Wednesdays where we pray and share our moments of happiness and sadness - all important for our physical and mental wellbeing. Geeta Bhawan has played an important role for us to pass on our cultural and religious heritage to our children and grandchildren. We wish our Geeta Bhawan a great future and glowing success.

By the grace of God I feel privileged to be part of Geeta Bhawan's 50th anniversary celebrations. I have been connected to Geeta Bhawan since its establishment in 1976 as an active member and lately as a committee member. Throughout my journey I have always participated in bhajan kirtan and other community activities. It has been a pleasant experience during these years to visit other places of worship, seaside resorts and picnic spots, organised by Geeta Bhawan. I also remember winning a few trophies year on year in our Geeta Bhawan community sports in the 80's. I feel very proud to be a member of Geeta Bhawan community which unites us together. I sincerely hope our next generation will take this legacy forward.

Geeta Bhawan has been an integral part of our lives, a sacred space where our community comes together to connect, celebrate, and be blessed by our faith.
I will never forget the nights we stayed up late during the Jagran, eventually falling asleep while our dedicated parents read and sang bhajans through the night and as kids, we loved playing with our friends around the temple grounds, and yes, maybe getting told off once or twice when a stray ball found a window! Oops.
Now, it brings so much joy to see our own child walking these same halls, embracing our beliefs, and creating their own relationship with the Geeta Bhavan.
From major life milestones to quiet moments of prayer, we have celebrated so many special events at the Mandir. It will always hold a cherished place in our hearts. Here’s to another 50 years of community, lifelong friendship, and devotion.

50 Years of Heart, Home, and Community
Congratulations to Geeta Bhawan, Loughborough, on a monumental 50-year anniversary!
To me, Geeta Bhawan is so much more than a place of worship. It has always been a place of solace for me. A place where sitting in front of the murties and singing prayers to my heart’s content brings an undeniable sense of peace. But above all, it is my community.
Reflecting back on my younger years, three celebrations always stole the show: Mata Ka Jagrata, Independence Day, and Diwali. Each one holds a treasure trove of fond memories:
Mata Ka Jagrata was our ultimate version of a late-night sleepover. We’d stack up the ghadis (mattresses) at the back of the hall and soak in the full fanfare of the night. I vividly remember the awe in the room when a woman felt Mata’s presence within her, and how everyone sang loud, proud, and completely fulfilled. Most of all, jagratas remind me of my dearest Grandmother (Bhabi) and her favourite prayer, "Mayia Jag Data Di."
Independence Day was our high-stakes fancy dress contest! The competition was fierce. I still treasure the photo of myself dressed as Goddess Durga Mata, alongside Rajiv as Lord Krishna, and Rohit and Rahul hilariously paired up as Husband and Wife. Those truly were the days!
Diwali in the Backyard was pure, unfiltered joy AND talk about living on the edge! Fireworks were blasted everywhere without a single thought for modern health and safety, but boy, was it fun. As kids, we absolutely loved every second of it.
Fast forward to my 20s, and I was blessed to hold my engagement ceremony at the Mandir, introducing Ricky (my now husband) to our wonderful community. Today, our lives have come full circle. We now have a beautiful daughter, Ishani, who is getting to know the Loughborough Mandir just as I did at her age - praying a bit, playing a bit, doing matha tek, and enjoying the delicious langar.
Thank you, Geeta Bhawan, for everything you have given and taught us. We are so deeply grateful for this community that continues to grow stronger together.

We are honoured to be part of this community and would like to extend our heartiest congratulations to Geeta Bhawan on its 50th Anniversary celebrations, for serving the Hindu Punjabi Community with commitment and sincerity.
We first visited Geeta Bhawan around 16 years ago, and we were warmly welcomed by the temple's members. It is a great place to come together and pray to the Hindu Deities.
The monthly satsangs and other religious celebrations bring us closer to God and strengthen our Hindu faith. We also enjoy other special religious events such as Mata ki Chowki, Shivaratri and Krishna Janmashtami. At the end of the programme, Prashad, once sanctified by the deity, is distributed to the devotees as a blessing, and is called Pritibhojan, which we all enjoy. We have all provided Seva at Geeta Bhawan, from helping in the kitchen, to the children helping with the donations collected and separating out the coins, to putting away the chairs and tables at the end of the programme. I have also had an opportunity to serve as a member of the Geeta Bhawan Committee, where I introduced the Geeta Bhawan website for the Hindu community within Loughborough and the surrounding areas.
Our children have learned about Hinduism from a very young age, and this is reflected in their beliefs, values and behaviours, and they enjoy visiting the temple. Both our children have had the opportunities in the past to partake and perform in the Diwali Celebration at the Loughborough Town Hall, sponsored by Geeta Bhawan, advocating about Diwali and what it means to us as Hindus and why we celebrate it. Geeta Bhawan temple plays a vital role in providing opportunities to interact with other members of the Hindu community and to share our faith, happiness and other life experiences.
I wish Geeta Bhawan continued success and development for the future in serving and bringing together the Hindu community and the Hindu Faith in Loughborough.

Poem
Geeta Bhawan is not just our temple, it is a part of us,
Not only parents, but children also come here without creating much of a fuss;
Here, we pray to God and meet our community,
It’s not just a place of worship, but also a centre of our unity;
Different religious programs and festivals are celebrated here,
Devotees overwhelmingly attend those programs from far and near;
Our Sunday programs, many times sponsored, for us, are our divine’s grace,
And Hanuman Chalisa chanting on Tuesdays, gives the feeling of meeting God face to face;
All the duties of the temple are performed by volunteers,
Every task is done wholeheartedly, with smiles, not tears;
They all know which duty they have to perform,
To serve with dedication, sincerity, and humbleness is their norm;
Members of Geeta Bhawan are like precious jewels,
Who promote peacefulness in the community and follow moral rules;
Some of these jewels, those kind souls, have left us and gone to God,
But they will remain in our hearts, and their contribution to the temple we’ll always applaud;
We always welcome new members from the community,
Who can share our faith and become part of our unity;
Whether you consider yourself old, experienced and gold, or you are smart, young and bold,
Geeta Bhawan does not discriminate, our common values we uphold;
We are like a big family in this temple of our belief,
We work, laugh, and pray together, and hold hands in times of grief;
At times, there can be disagreements, small arguments or things may go a bit wrong,
But our Geeta Bhawan is keeping us all united and keeping us strong;
We have been a part of this temple for years and want our children to keep the same faith,
So that, ever the seas get rough, Geeta Bhawan is there to keep them safe;
We hope to celebrate many more anniversaries of Geeta Bhawan,
Where our unity thrives and our devotion lives on.
Happy 50th Anniversary to Geeta Bhawan

Having served on the Geeta Bhawan managing committee as an assistant Secretary two years ago, this year I have the honour and privilege to be elected as a Vice President, the position I accepted with humility and commitment. To serve GB community, among other tasks, one of my initiative was to establish a maintenance team of like-minded skilled volunteers who were willing to join me and had a shared sense of purpose. To-date my team has successfully accomplished many maintenance and improvement projects. Hopefully our dedicated voluntary services are nurturing foundations of a strong and caring community.
As a vice President I had to take on extra duties and I needed the full support of my wife. Luckily she happily joined me in serving our temple and now is an active volunteer devoting her time alongside other fellow ladies (my sisters) in preparing and serving food at the religious events. Her willingness to serve with devotion and humility has been a great source of strength and inspiration to me. We both are grateful to our community for the faith and confidence they have placed in us to serve them through our humble services.
On the joyous occasion of our Temple’s Golden Anniversary, we offer our sincere prayers and heartfelt gratitude to the Divine for guiding us through fifty years. May this sacred temple continue to be a beacon of faith, peace, wisdom and service for generations to come. May the blessings of the Lord be upon all devotees, volunteers and well-wishers of Geeta Bhawan.

I came from Singapore in 1982 with my family. I have lived in Loughborough for more than 44 years. I and my wife and family
have been proud members of Geeta Bhawan.
As most of my immediate family is dispersed all over the world, my wife and I have long considered the congregation of Geeta Bhawan as our family.
My wife and myself are blessed that we have become part of the Mandir and can share our joys and sometimes sadness with all the members. We are
indeed, blessed to consider members of the Mandir as our family.
The unity of Geeta Bhawan of Loughborough is very special. All member’s work selflessly and without any motive or self-interest. All members consider work
as seva. All work for the good of the Mandir. This is very rare and unique to Geeta Bhawan.
We wish Geeta Bhawan our heartiest best wishes on the 50th Anniversary.

Geeta Bhawan Temple began as a small acorn — a simple idea rooted in devotion, community spirit, and the desire for a shared place of worship. Its earliest moments were humble yet deeply meaningful.
I still remember the very first satsang, that our father and mother, Shri Parshotam Lal Tiwari and Sheela Tiwari held in the front lounge of 34 Herbert Street around 1973, where several founding families gathered together. The room was modest, but the atmosphere was filled with warmth, bhakti, and a sense of purpose that would guide the temple’s future.
As word spread and the number of devotees steadily increased, the front lounge could no longer contain the growing congregation. To accommodate this expanding community, St Peter’s Hall was hired, offering a larger space for Satsang's and prayers.
Those years were marked by dedication, seva, and the collective effort of families who gave their time, resources, and hearts to nurture the Mandir’s growth.
Eventually, through perseverance and unity, the community moved into the present location — a place that truly reflects the blossoming of that original acorn. Today, Geeta Bhawan Temple stands as a beautiful mandir where devotees come to pray, reflect, celebrate festivals, and share moments of togetherness. It is a living testament to the vision of its founders, the devotion of its families, and the blessings that have guided its journey from a small living room to a cherished spiritual home.
Heartfelt congratulation to everyone on the 50th anniversary a remarkable journey built on devotion, unity and the blessings of our community.

We're celebrating 50 years of a new beginning. And at the time that this Mandir was established, those that were part of this community had themselves had new beginnings in this country in the years that preceded it. This Mandir was then and is now a vital part of the community, a lifeline, a source of pride.
That the Mandir made Lemyngton Street it's home seems fortuitous. My mother remembers this little street was also home to an infant welfare clinic where she used to come to have her babies weighed and picked up formula milk. So in a way its always been a happy little corner of the town. And a place of new beginnings.
Long may that continue. Happy anniversary dear Mandir. Happy anniversary community. Keep evolving..

वसुधैव कुटुम्बकम् - Vasudhaiva Kutubbakam. This eternal phrase comes from our Sanatam Dharma’s holy and ancient book Maha Upanishad. It simply means “Whole world is a one family”.
Why it is important to remind us this eternal phrase in the context of Loughborough’s Geeta Bhawan?
Because a small community of Hindu families more than five decades ago, like one extended family took a bold decision to come together with a common vision to establish this great place, where people of all backgrounds could come together and celebrate their faith, culture and heritage under one roof.
We need to remind ourselves that times were tough in those days, when this all started, people worked hard, and in unsociable hours and raised their families but still came together to build this from the bottom up. Because of the selfless service of that generation and now the 3rd generation of families come together to celebrate their joyous functions and the farewells to the departed souls.
It is wonderful to see regularly on Sunday, functions are held, people come together from different cities and enjoy the day long celebrations. This is only possible because of the dedication of the members of the committee and individuals to make it possible by cooking, arranging and participating in a selfless and dedicated manner to make it possible.
Elders now both men and women of that era have set an example of the community cohesion for the next generations to come. Their legacy and of their families is intertwined with the growth and history of this temple. This is up to successive generations to build on this success and keep it going for years to come.
That’s why our ancient phrase वसुधैव कुटुम्बकम् is most relevant and practiced here in Geeta Bhawan.
I wish congratulations on behalf of my family and wish for its continued success.

We have very good memories of using our precious Geeta Bhawan since 1981. I remember going with my respective mother & father in law, Mr Chaman Lal Gupta and Mrs Gyan Devi Gupta at St Peter’s. We used to walk the 30 minute journey by foot and they were both dedicated to the temple. We enjoyed listening to my father in law reading the Ramayana and we have learnt a lot about our culture and religion. From a young age in India, I remember attending the temple every day in the morning and evening. When I came to England I have been able to carry on my religious beliefs by coming to the Geeta Bhawan which made me feel at home. By coming here and talking to others you realise you are not alone. You go to the temple to seek blessings from God and support others who need it. It is a place for our small Hindu Punjabi community to come together and it feels like a second home. We have also enjoyed the many trips organised by the temple and being able to engage in social activities with other members. Seeing our children attend the temple programmes over the years has also been important to us. By coming to the temple we receive God’s blessing and prayer. It gives you inner peace, strength, motivation, determination and devotion. We wish the younger generation all the best to take Geeta Bhawan to the next level and hope it can remain a home for our community for many years to come. We wish Geeta Bhawan a happy 50th anniversary celebration and CONGRATULATIONS!

We have all grown up and things around us have changed. The one constant in all of our lives has been Geeta Bhawan. Although all the aunties and uncles seem to look exactly the same. Mandir has always been important to us and a place of community. We felt that profoundly when our Dad died and Mum lost her husband. The community was there for us, like it has always been. We hope Mandir and the community will continue to flourish over the next fifty years. Congratulations to Geeta Bhawan on its Golden anniversary.

Ever since Geeta Bhawan was established in 1976 by the first generation, there has been so many changes and positive outlook to the community. From being passed on to the 2nd generation to currently the 3rd generation, it keeps the Geeta bawan spirit alive with fresh new energy and ideas. Attending Geeta Bhawan from a young age has helped build a social network and learn things from other members. Seeing young kids who are the 4th generation is a very touching sight because these youngsters can spread Geeta Bhawan energy to their friends and introduce them to Hinduism and also learn about the religion and culture themselves. Booking the hall for functions is so easy and effortless and the committee are accommodating in all aspects. I am very proud to be a part of the 3rd generation and hope to be a part of Geeta Bhawan for many years to come!

Heartiest congratulations to our Geeta Bhawan community as we celebrate Golden Anniversary of our beloved Geeta Bhawan, a place of worship and community centre. We have been fortunate to be the life members of Geeta Bhawan since its establishment in 1976.

Geeta Bhawan – A Cherished Part of Our Family and Community
Since its establishment in July 1976, Geeta Bhawan has been far more than a place of worship. It has become a vibrant community centre where people of all ages come together to celebrate religious, cultural, and social events, fostering a strong sense of belonging and friendship.
Over the past five decades, our family has had the privilege of witnessing four generations connected to Geeta Bhawan. Our late father, Shri Chaman Lal Gupta, one of the co-founders of Geeta Bhawan, was a devoted member of the temple community. Many long-standing members still remember him fondly for his beautiful recitations of the Ramayan and his ability to explain its verses with remarkable clarity and insight.
Our children, representing the third generation of our family’s association with Geeta Bhawan, grew up attending temple programmes and enthusiastically participating in Independence Day celebrations. They took part in fancy dress competitions, singing, and dance performances, creating memories that remain cherished to this day. Today, their children—the fourth generation—continue this tradition by attending and enjoying the many religious and social events organised by the temple.
Over the years, our family has also enjoyed being part of the community picnics, outings, and numerous other activities arranged by Geeta Bhawan. These occasions have strengthened friendships and created lasting bonds among members of the community.
Geeta Bhawan has always played an important role in bringing people together. It is a place where individuals and families share their joys and sorrows, support one another during difficult times, and celebrate achievements together. The temple has been a source of spiritual guidance, social connection, and emotional support for countless families, contributing greatly to the well-being of the wider community.
As Geeta Bhawan approaches its 50th anniversary, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the past and present Trustees, Committee Members, and volunteers who have generously dedicated their time, energy, and commitment to ensuring the continued success of this remarkable institution. Their selfless service has enabled Geeta Bhawan to flourish and remain a cornerstone of the community for nearly five decades.
We look forward to attending every programme and celebration held at the temple and sincerely hope that Geeta Bhawan continues to grow, prosper, and serve future generations for many years to come.

Attending the weekly Geeta bhajan group has become essential for me. It is filled with positive energy that completely recharges my spiritual and mental batteries.
Socially, it brings so much happiness. It’s a wonderful way to connect with people of our age, providing a warm, welcoming space for anyone who might be feeling a bit lonely. Beyond the beautiful bhajan, I always look forward to our lovely catch-ups and sharing fun tips on bargain shopping. I also learn new bhajans from the group.

My memory for the Geeta Bhavan is when my late husband Ramendra Bihari Sinha and myself moved to Loughborough from London in 1994, with British Gas Research Centre. He used to work for British Gas as a senior scientist. One day he met late Mr Harwansh Sharma in the town. Mr Sharma told us about Geeta Mandir. We started visiting the temple on every occasions. When I lost my husband 10 years ago I received lots of support from the temple members.
Now we celebrate a monumental milestone. For fifty years, this temple has stood as a beacon of peace, spiritual guidance, and unwavering service to our community. I honor the vision of the founders, the dedication of the volunteers, and the divine grace that has sustained this sacred space for half a century.
Celebrating 50 years of spiritual heritage, community, and devotion. May the temple continue to be a beacon of peace, wisdom, and unity for generations to come. Congratulations on reaching this magnificent 50-year milestone. Happy Golden Anniversary!
With best wishes,

Congratulations to Geeta Bhawan Loughborough on celebrating 50 years, what a huge achievement. I have been coming to the mandir for 20 years, since I was a child. I have made some invaluable connections and lifelong friends whom I now consider family. I’m so glad the mandir is now open more frequently, it encourages a younger generation to come in and connect to the religion, it gives students like me an escape from our never-ending studies. The introduction of the Tuesday evening programmes (lead by Rajesh Sharma) have been so refreshing and I would love to see more people treat it like a normal programme and see more regulars! I think the future of the mandir will be good hands if a wider demographic have more of a say! Congratulations GB on 50 years!

Sunday prayers have always been a special time, bringing the Hindu community in Loughborough together in worship and fellowship. From humble beginnings with just one hall, the temple has grown to include a second hall—one dedicated to religious events and the other providing a welcoming space for everyone to come together and enjoy meals. Becoming a life member has been a privilege, and it has been wonderful to witness the temple grow into such an important place of worship and community.

One of the things I appreciate most is how fortunate we are to have both ladies and gentlemen blessed with beautiful singing voices and the talent to play musical instruments when singing bhajans. It is especially heartwarming to see the younger generation taking part and helping to carry these traditions forward.

Namaste Uncle
Wishing you and all of Geeta Bhawan the best of wishes ahead of the 50 year's celebrations. Please see below a message:
Congratulations Geeta Bhawan Mandir on a tremendous 50 years! You’ve been a pillar of the local community and we sincerely hope the wonderful legacy formed over the past few decades carries on for future generations. Credit goes to the wonderful aunties and uncles who have dedicated their love and time into making Geeta Bhawan Mandir the warm, welcoming temple that it is. We spent many Sundays there as children growing and learning about the Hindu religion. Children and young people were always encouraged to join in and in turn, the whole mandir would cheer and clap for every milestone celebrated, whether it be a child’s birthday, educational achievement, marriage and then having their own children. Even when we return from time to time with our own children, we are always greeted with love and a warm embrace and that’s the true Geeta Bhawan spirit. Thank you for many wonderful years and long may it continue.
Best wishes

Congratulations to our Geeta Bhawan on their 50th Golden anniversary. A proud day for us ALL.
I remember the early days of going to Storer Road and even helping to lift the deities onto the stage in the new Mandir!
I'm so proud to be part of Geeta Bhawan. When we have guests join us for Chonkis and Jaagrans from outside of Loughborough, they are always impressed by how close the community is and everyone feels like family.
Thank you to the committee and volunteers for their hard work and commitment over 5 decades.
Geeta Bhawan is always there for us in good times and challenging times.
Love and best wishes

Many congratulations to us all on the Golden Anniversary.
My earliest memories are of, as a child, attending the mandir with my family at St. Peter's community centre. There were difficult times and I remember Dr Chhabra, Mr H. L. Sharma and Mr S. L. Bassi going door to door collecting £5 membership donations.
The temple extension was self funded by the punjabi families.
It was an emotional moment when the murtis arrived. It took great team work and extreme care unboxing and placing on the deities stage.
As well as the mandir functions allowing spiritual growth, the community centre is used by the karate club. Students aged 5 to 70 years old. A great hub for social cohesion with students from many backgrounds and cultures. As a family we have used the community hall to celebrate various functions.
I am proud to be a part of the Mandir and look forward to a prosperous future together

Having been born into this Mandir, it has been a privilege to see our community continue to grow and evolve over the years while remaining rooted in our faith and traditions. One of the most positive developments has been the regular Tuesday Hanuman Chalisa Satsangs, which over the past year have brought people together in a way that has encouraged greater participation from the younger generation. These evenings have created opportunities for younger members to get involved through seva, organisation and supporting the wider Mandir community, helping them to feel part of something bigger. Seeing different generations come together in devotion, friendship and service has strengthened our sense of unity, and I hope we continue to build on this so that everyone feels welcomed, valued and inspired to contribute to the future of our Mandir.

My dear Geeta Bhawan Loughborough community and past and present Geeta Bhawan committee members and trustees- My heartfelt congratulations on our Geeta Bhawan’s golden anniversary.
50 years ago, this temple was a dream built on faith and devotion of our first generation of Punjabi speaking Hindu families. I had the pleasure of knowing most of the uncles and aunties who laid down the foundation. I express my sincere gratitude to them for their contributions.
I have fond memories of the moment when I was part of the team of volunteers who moved Deities of Radha Krishan from the dining hall to the brand new prayer hall built for the purpose. I also remember receiving cargo boxes of other deities from India and lifting them on the new stage to complete our temple, where we could pray together.
I have witnessed over the gone by years, parents with babies, then toddlers running around, growing up as adults, getting married and now having their own children who visit our Mandir. Geeta Bhawan is a big family where we get together to share our happy times and the time when we are feeling low. We celebrate all the festivals as a family. Team of volunteer ladies and gents join forces to cook and serve food to all the attendees. Visiting guests always compliment our selfless service and hospitality. We are also grateful to our dedicated ladies who create the spiritual atmosphere with their devotional singing.
Our Geeta Bhawan is a beacon of hope, faith and spirituality which guides us on the path of righteousness. Here are our best wishes for many more anniversary celebrations.
Kind regards

Heartiest congratulations to our Geeta Bhawan community as we celebrate Golden anniversary of our beloved temple. I am very much looking forward to celebrate the big day with our family, friends and all the members of our community. I remember when we moved our temple from the temporary site to the new location in Lemyngton street. At that time it felt like we were building our own home. Not long after I found the place to be my home, which I found after four years. I believe this happened with God’s blessings. Geeta Bhawan has served its community so well. It has given us opportunities to get together to pray, socialise and celebrate our festivals. We get together in our community centre to share our happy and sad moments which is very important for our physical and mental wellbeing. We wish Geeta Bhawan a great future and success.
